Since the election, we have asked a simple question to our membership: What do you want to see from us? The answers have been varied and insightful. You want to learn more about the issues, the workings of government, and how to run for office. You want more interaction with elected officials. You want closer coordination with other allied groups and clubs. You want a calendar that keeps you informed of important events in our area. Most of all, you want action.
Well, the time has come for action. As the attacks on our core American values have grown, so has interest in our cause. Here's how to get involved:
1) On Thursday, February 2nd from 6pm - 10pm, join us for the first Miami-Dade Democratic Party fundraiser with DNC Treasurer Andrew Tobias. The address is 7701 SW 81st Ave, Miami, FL 33143. Contributions range from $25 up to $2,500 and includes dinner and an open bar. See the attached fliers for more details and RSP at www.miamidadedems.org/firstfundraiser2017
2) Become a paid member of the Downtown Dems! Annual dues are $50/year or $250 for a lifetime membership. Much of our programming, organizing, and growth will depend on your participation and only paid members may vote on club direction. You can become a paid member at https://downtowndems.nationbuilder.com/donate
3) Join a committee and/or attend our leadership meeting on February 9th. If you are interested in getting involved with our steering committee, one of our individual committees, or simply attending our leadership meeting, please reply to this email with your level of interest.
4) Attend our next general meeting which will be our traditional happy hour at Fado's Irish Pub on February 16th. More details to follow.
Finally, we held our elections last Thursday and a new board has now taken office. I would like to take this moment to thank our founding President, George Abbott, for his inspired leadership in helping this club grow from an idea to what it is today. It was an honor to serve as his Vice President and I have some big shoes to fill as his successor. Thankfully, he is not going anywhere. I would also like to thank all of our other members who have helped make the Downtown Dems one of the most dynamic clubs in the county.
Without further ado, here is our new board:
President - Richard Lamondin
Vice President - Eileen Higgins
Treasurer - Alex Perez
Secretary - Hank Honig
Membership Director - Gail Paris
Political Director - Theo O'Brien
Campaigns Director - Gabriel Goffman
Programming Director - Rosana Greco
Fundraising Director - Katy LaFleur
Congratulations to the new board!
Lets get to work,
President, Downtown Dems

Join the DEC
We at the Downtown Dems believe in a more inclusive party and a broader, more engaged grassroots. It has been our mission since inception, and with that in mind we invite you to become a DEC Member today. The Democratic Executive Committee is the foundation organization in our County, State, and even National Party.
On Tuesday, December 20th at the former Clinton HQ in Wynwood (2215 NW 1st Place, Miami, FL 33127), DEC members will cast their votes in an election for State Committeeman that may well decide who becomes the next Chair of the Florida Democratic Party. Here's why:
Last Saturday, Miami-Dade Democratic Party State Committeeman Bret Berlin resigned from his party leadership position to create a vacancy for DEC candidates interested in becoming our next DEC State Committeeman and possibly the next Chair of our Florida Democratic Party (being a County DEC Chair, Vice-Chair, or State Committeeman/woman, is a pre-requisite for any registered Democrat to be eligible to become FDP Chair).
Registration will begin at 6:00PM and the meeting will start at 7:00PM. Once again, we encourage you to become a member of the DEC.
Should you wish to become a DEC member, please complete the linked membership application (linked) and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday, 12/15, at Noon EST.

Though we did not win the Presidency, we are immensely proud of newly elected members Jose Javier Rodriguez, Nick Duran, Robert Asencio, and Daisy Baez. Thank you also to the other candidates who may not have won, but put their names forward for our city, state, and country.
Thank you to our membership for your support and for believing in this club's mission. We are truly proud of the work that we have done to spread democratic values and to make sure people get out and vote.
We have much work to do in the next few years, so once the bitterness of this election has passed, please come out and join us. We provide a community where progressive can connect and work together to move our country forward. We host month happy hours, drive engagement with our Presidentially famous Brunch & Vote, host discussions on the most pressing issues, canvas with our candidates, and provide a platform to get things done.
